Child Development Facts
 
  • 85% of youths in prisons grew up in a fatherless home.
  • Nationwide, more than 463,000 children live in foster care. 65% emancipate without a place to live.
  • It is estimated that 9 to 10 million children under the age of 18 are directly affected by substance-abusing parents.
 
Years 1 through 12 are the most important ages for development and growth. Children need stability and love to reach their potential. At HeartLove Place's we expose children to a learning environment that is rich with language, offers opportunity for children to ask questions, and fosters social and emotional skills for each child we care for.

Drug Facts
  • Tobacco abuse in the U.S. costs $96 billion in healthcare costs.
  • In 2010, over 25,700 arrests were made for drug law violations in Wisconsin.
 
  • 22.5 million American 12+ years old used an illicit drug or abused medication in the past month.
 
   
It is becoming harder to avoid drugs at school, on the streets, or even at home. At HeartLove Place, we provide a place to meet new, positive friends and learn all the cool things that can be accomplished when not involved with drugs. We also have resources to help you stop drug abuse and start living a fulfilling life.

The Family Resource Center provides important referral services to help anyone in need of assistance. A one time donation as low as $5 will be used help our friends and family who need it the most.

Education Facts

 
  • 3,030,000 kids drop out of high school every year. That is 8,300 kids every single day.
 
  • 75% of all crimes in the United States are committed by a high school dropout.
 
  • A high school drop out is not eligible for 90% of all jobs in the United States.
 
     
Children are our future and these frightening facts can be changed. HeartLove Place offers Youth/Teen Programs that provides a safe place, activities such as tutoring, homework help, field trips, and much more.

A single donation as small as $5 can provide HeartLove Place with important supplies to keep our youth/teen programs running and our children learning.

Gang Facts
     
  • In 2009, there were a reported 1 million gang members in the United States. That is almost as large as the entire population of the state of Rhode Island.
 
  • 90,000 boys are in some kind of detention facility, work camp, residential placement or correctional facility. 9 out of 10 of those boys have some level of gang affiliation.
 
  • One out of three girls in gangs have been in special education.
 
     
HeartLove Place helps youth stay out of gangs with their Family Resource Center which offers after-school programs and recreational activities to help stop the spread of violence.

The Family Resource Center is currently looking for volunteers that have a love for children and families to assist with programs, activities and events.

Hunger Facts
  •  1 out of 3 residents in the City of Milwaukee are living in poverty.
  •  Poor nutrition causes almost half of the deaths in children under five each year.
  •  62% of U.S. teachers regularly see children come to school hungry.
 
There are so many ways to help those who are in need in our community.  We have Food Service programs that service local centers, schools, adult daycare, and other local facilities who sign-up to participate. Everything is prepared by our well-trained, dedicated staff.  HeartLove Place is an approved vendor by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI).

Homelessness Facts
   
  • Family homelessness is the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population, accounting for 41% of the nation’s homeless population in 2009.
   
  • Research by Dennis Culhane, University of Pennsylvania, followed thousands of homeless people in New York and each of them used an average of $40,000 a year in public services, such as increased healthcare. 
   
  •  1.37 million of the total homeless population in USA are children under the age of 18.
   

   
Homelessness is a growing epidemic and shows no signs of stopping. Despite the ever increasing number of homeless, most cities lack adequate shelter for every homeless

At our Family Resource Center, we help provide our brothers and sisters in need with food, clothing, and important referral services to help those in their time of need.

Unemployment Facts
  • According to the government's most recent job report, 12.6% of black Americans are unemployed. However, the percentage of unemployed black teens is a staggering 41.6%.
  • Unemployment among ex-offenders has been estimated at between 25 and 40 percent.
  • The unemployment rate dropped to 7.3%, its lowest since December 2008, but due primarily to fewer Americans in the labor force.
 
Despite the economy being on the rise and government programs to safeguard us from disaster, homelessness and unemployment is still a substantial problem in the United States.

HeartLove Place provides employment opportunities through its ProStart Culinary & Job Readiness Program which trains and prepares participants to obtain entry-level careers in the food service and hospitality industry.

Violence Facts
   
  • Every year, about 100,000 Americans are victims of gun violence.
   
  • 1 in 17 = chance of being a victim of a crime in Milwaukee.
   
  • 5.5 million U.S. children live in families in which partner violence occurred at least once in the past year.
   
     
HeartLove Place provides after school programs, social development skills, referral services, and more. Our variety of programs and services are designed to strengthen and support families in the Milwaukee area and keep violence out of the home.
